RE: Removing 50 amp for 30 amp

Yes, the 30 amp ties both L1 & L2 together through the dog bone adapter so you have 110v on all circuits.
True, the only thing I would need 50 amps for is if I installed the second a/c or the washer/dryer option that my fiver is plumbed for. My 50 to 30 amp adapter cord is on its fifth season without a problem. Good investment for 100 bucks.
With 30 amps, I can have anything on and have no problems. including the fireplace, microwave, entertainment center, and coffee pot, etc.

RE: 8.1 Liter Suburban Performance

I have had both, the v10 Ford and the 8.1/Allison. While the v10 did get a little better MPG, it couldn't hold a candle the power of the 8.1. My combo weighs just over 20,000 lbs. It can pull fully loaded from about 1350 rpm without a downshift if you ease the throttle down. Towing My setup got around 8mpg and empty it got around 10mpg.

RE: Removing 50 amp for 30 amp

I can't remember the last time I drug out the 50 amp cord. I have a 50 to 30 amp 25ft cord and a 50ft extension if I need it. 30 amps runs everything in my fiver without any problems.

RE: Don’t buy State Farm RV insurance

From some one who had to deal with SF on a daily basis because I ran a body shop for many years, They were one of the most customer driven companies out there. There adjusters are all employees of SF and they are mobile. One I know is in Texas right now. He is only home 1 weekend a month over a period of nine months. Since I have been out of the body shop business for four years, SF has taken a major nose dive. Were my shop used to be a SF pro-shop, my buddy who runs the shop now hopes SF insured folks don't even come in. And that's after over 25 years of dealing with SF.
It's just like everything else, you have some good and some bad experiances. I still Have SF, but not on my RV.

RE: RV sales down..... Local story news

Rving was meant to done with disposable income I thought. I could never see using my home equity to by a toy. But that's just me. I took a ten year loan on my fiver and we paid it off in 2 years. But now someone seems to have disposed of a lot my disposable income. Ouch.
I was looking forward to retirement because they said I'd be on a fixed income.
But I've found my income hasn't been fixed. Still broken.
Now that's funny Master Chief. Sad but funny.

RE: Heated Sewer Hose

You would be smart to heed Thecampingman's words. My buddy spent last winter here in northeast IL in his new cedar creek. (with dual pane windows and using hay bales for skirting) He had to sleep in his reclining outdoor chair set up in the living room inside a cold weather sleeping bag. He was burning through 60 lbs of propane every other day just trying to maintain 54 degrees inside the fiver. He was frozen out of the fiver after a ice storm. Took him 3 hours to get inside using a heat gun. The only reason he did this was because he was transfered from Indy to here and His family stayed home to try to sell the house. He said He would NEVER do that again.
Lucky for him he sold his home and bought a new one here so he'll be warm this winter. This guy is no stranger to cold. He is very much a hunter and outdoors man. I gave him the nads of the year award.

RE: Lippert Frame/Pin Box Issues

I inspect welds and aerospace components for a living. I am the lead QA person in my area and we do about 3.5 to 4.5 million dollars in hardware a month.
Let me state, as a fact, that most welds on my Lippert frame do NOT meet the national standards set forth in ISO and various QA publications. Are they substandard? Well, for thier intended use perhaps not but they are in no way produced by what I would consider a qualified or certified welder.
I agree completely with this. As a person who runs a heavy equipment repair shop that does serious fabrication and welding. I have two of the finest welders in the area working for me and I would never want them to see the welds on my fiver. I'd never hear the end of it. They are we call bugger welds.

RE: Never deal with THOR credit

While I'm in the heavy equipment business, What Dick says is very real, so I'll give one of my normal scenarios.
No mister 30 million dollar business owner, I can't sell you a 10,000.00 part for one of your 250,000.00 machines because my computer has shut your account down because you owe 2.57 in late fees for over 30 days. IT MAKES ME CRAZY!
The computers take the personal contact out of everything. I would never tell the customer what my screen just said. I would take the order and call accounting and tell them to fix the problem. 7 out of 10 times that's all it takes.
I will not allow my personal relationship with customers be effected by this junk. And oh, My spell check works fine.

RE: Rain messed up awning roll tube

I just went through a near miss with a tornado at the beginning of the august. The storm came through out of nowhere at dinner time. I always use HD tiedowns and anti flappers. I also keep the awning tilted about two notches to one end.
I found out the next day we had 75mph wind gusts and I had an 18 foot water fall off the awning like i have never seen before. My 18 foot awning made it through without any damage.

RE: No, you don't qualify for loan?

Politicians pushed for loose lending. Greedy lenders gave out subprime loans. Greedy borrowers bought homes they couldn't afford.
I don't think the rest of us taxpayers should have to bail out the greedy lenders and greedy borrowers.
Tightening the lending requirements is a good thing. It will result in fewer people buying homes they can't afford.
Amen to that Roadrunner! This 100% the truth.
I used to drive around my area and think to myself....who can afford these homes? Well, I guess a lot them couldn't. Cause there empty now.

RE: RVTV-Nuke the cooking ladies!

So far I can actually say I have never had to cook my Beer. I'm a whiz with the fridge though.
I will say that I'm not a big fan of RVTV and definitely am not a fan of the cooking ladies. Thats what my DVR is for.

Don't forget also when P tires are used on a truck, you must reduce load rating capacity by 10%.

RE: thermostat question

Like said before. A digital t-stat is the first thing I change in a new RV. Forget low speed. just use high wire. I buy mine from HD or Menards. I use the battery type and have to change out the batteries at the beginning of the season and they last all year.
